Which school are you looking for
Italian school or international path: Italy offers both
Some families want to join the Italian school system, others want to continue an international path, with qualifications recognised worldwide. On Classifica Scuole you’ll find every school in Italy, from pre-school to higher education, whatever you choose.
The Italian system
For those who want an Italian qualification.
- State schools. Public and free, following the national curriculum.
- “Paritarie” schools. Private and recognised by the State: they award the same qualification as state schools, often with their own projects.
From pre-school to higher education
- 3-6
- Scuola dell’infanzia (pre-school)
- 6-11
- Scuola primaria (primary school)
- 11-14

School is compulsory from age 6 to 16.
The international path
For those who want to continue an international education, with qualifications recognised abroad.
- International schools. International curricula taught in English or other languages, from pre-school to diploma.
- Bilingual schools. The Italian curriculum with a second language, to keep both paths open.
Curricula and qualifications
Different names, same years
Many international schools organise their year groups differently from Italian schools, with their own names and age ranges. Always ask the school which year group matches your child’s age.
After the diploma
Universities in Italy, including degree programmes taught in English, or abroad.
Each school profile shows its type, services, languages and documents, so you can compare Italian and international schools on the same criteria.
